About Garech

I am a trained nutritional therapist who is passionate about food and how it can influence our health for the better.

The concept of wholefood nutrition is something I believe strongly in for the achievement and maintenance of health. Whole foods are foods that are unprocessed / unrefined. In this state they retain most of their nutrients, antioxidants and phytochemicals – providing more health promoting and health protecting effects than their refined and ultra-processed alternatives.

Over that past 100 years our food supply has become saturated with ultra-processed food designed for maximum shelf life and profit, not human health.

I believe true health can be achieved from eating a wholefood diet, alongside other lifestyle factors.

I grew up in a family who loved the sports of shooting and fishing. This meant I was exposed to an abundance of fresh, wild foods. It made me consider what makes our food, what food does our food eat (if animals are farm reared what is in their diet?), and how does this affect our health?

I have also (in my younger years!) lived a life where almost everything I ate and drink came out of a pub or take away! I have worked as a traveling engineering – on the road all day and dependent on the best food road side garages and petrol stations had to offer!

I started my career working with technology and computers. I found I had a love for understanding how things work – be that a computer or a car, and subsequently the human body!

After dealing with some health issues and discovering that some simple dietary changes could have a hugely beneficial effect I was moved to learn more about what changes I could make to improve my health further.

In 2012 I undertook a health coaching certificate program with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition to learn more about how nutrition affects our health.

I followed this up in 2016 by studying a 3 year professional diploma in nutritional therapy with the College of Naturopathic Medicine.

I now work as a Nutritional Therapist (Nutritionist) and Health Coach – My aim is to help people who wish to make positive health changes, be that weight loss, help with managing diabetes or other health issues, or improving mood and energy levels – mainly through changes in diet.

I believe the path to health is through self-education and empowerment. The modern medicine system is brilliant at dealing with injuries, and acute health episodes, but it does not always fair so well in dealing with chronic illnesses such as heart disease, obesity, diabetes and others.

Ultimately pills and surgery are not the best solution to our collective health challenges in the long term.

Our bodies have evolved over hundreds of thousands of years to function optimally in the natural environment.

This means if we hope to achieve lasting health we must tune into nature – eat the foods nature provides, get out into nature and move our bodies.

But how do we do this when we are so far removed from nature? Our supermarkets are full of processed convenience foods and our “health” system promises to keep us healthy while mainly focusing on disease!

Anyone who has been ill or watched a relative struggle with chronic health issues may have realised that the health system we rely on is really not capable of restoring us fully to our health.

I believe we need inspiration – we can be inspired to change our diet and food choices to align more with nature, and in the process we can discover not only do we feel better and our health improves, but we actually enjoy our food more – we come to be more actively involved in choosing and preparing our food. We receive joy from the act of eating – knowing we are not only protecting our health and wellness, but helping protect our natural environment.
